PHIX, a fast-growing Dutch scale-up in photonic chip technology, is receiving financing from Rabobank to enable further scaling of its production capacity.
Photonic chips contribute to reducing energy consumption in data centers and digital infrastructures, which is essential for the ever-increasing need for information processing. This technology not only meets the growing demand for more advanced chip solutions, but also contributes to the energy transition and the sustainability of our society.

“We are pleased that Rabobank not only views us as a customer, but also supports us as a partner. In doing so, they contribute to the further growth of PHIX and our ambitions for a more sustainable society. For us, this investment is a crucial step in further scaling up our activities. It enables us to grow faster and contribute to the sustainability of the digital economy.”
Albert Hasper
PHIX CEO
Rabobank emphasizes that the partnership aligns seamlessly with its strategic pillars.

“As a cooperative bank, we consciously look for companies that contribute to societal developments, such as the energy and digitalization transition. PHIX demonstrates how technology and sustainability can reinforce each other. Such initiatives align well with what we at Rabobank stand for.”
Thomas Klaassen
Account Manager for Large Businesses at Rabobank

“Photonics is important for the future earning capacity and competitive position of the Netherlands. It’s not without reason that the government has designated photonics as a key technology for the future. With its technology, PHIX plays a key role as a frontrunner. That is precisely what we and the Rabobank Startup & Scale-Up Team are focusing on: supporting the frontrunners in transitions.”
Herbert Beldhuis
Startup & Scale-Up Banker at Rabobank
With this collaboration, both parties demonstrate how a partnership between an innovative startup and a cooperative bank can contribute to both economic growth and social progress, in the spirit of Rabobank’s mission: Growing a better world together.
PHIX designs and manufactures modules based on photonic chips, or photonic integrated circuits (PICs). PICs offer greater data transfer speed and lower energy consumption when compared to electronic chips, and they open up new innovative applications. PIC-based modules can be part of, for example, LiDAR systems for self-driving vehicles, mobile medical scanners, or quantum computers. As one of the fastest growing production companies in The Netherlands, PHIX serves some of the biggest and most innovative deep tech companies in the world with photonic chip packaging.
