Manufacturing engineer photonics packaging

PHIX is looking for a manufacturing engineer to support our integrated photonics and MEMS assembly activities in Enschede, The Netherlands.

PHIX is a world leading packaging foundry for photonic ICs (PICs). We supply customized PIC based components and modules to OEM customers and system integrators in scalable production volumes.

We believe that early involvement is critical to come to the best results and therefore PHIX is also offering engineering support in the product design phase to ensure the manufacturability of the PIC based modules. PHIX is a scale-up company and started operations in July 2018.

Job description

As manufacturing engineer you are responsible for defining, supporting and improving our assembly processes for our photonic IC and MEMS based customer products. These processes include chip bonding, active alignment, optical fiber attachment, micro-optical element placement, epoxy dispensing, wire bonding, mechanical assembly and other related processes.

More specifically, your responsibilities are:

  • Define detailed process flows based on inputs from PIC packaging engineers.
  • Prototype process steps on manual assembly stations and implement process steps on automated assembly machines in cooperation with the automation engineers.
  • Create documentation for the operators.
  • Monitor production performance indicators and improve these by continuous improvement processes.
  • Act as the engineering contact for production and maintain contact with all stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.

Professional requirements

  • Relevant BSc. or MSc. engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a relevant high-tech environment, such as photonics, MEMS or sensor technology.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience in applying Six Sigma tools in process development and process improvement.
  • Proven problem solving skills.
  • Practical and pragmatic approach.
  • Capable of working independently and balancing urgent tasks with important tasks.
  • Good personal organization and good reporting and documentation skills.

Languages

  • Fluency in English
  • Dutch or willing to learn to speak Dutch
