PHIX is a packaging foundry for photonic ICs (PICs) and we aim to become world leader in packaging and assembly of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). We supply customized PIC based components and modules to OEM customers and system integrators in scalable production volumes.

We believe that early involvement is critical to come to the best results and therefore PHIX is also offering engineering support in the product design phase to ensure the manufacturability of the PIC based modules. Job description

As Engineering Manager you are responsible for managing the multi-disciplinary engineering team. The engineering team is running the customer projects where products are co-developed with our customers and where the assembly processes are designed and optimized. Typical deliveries of customer projects are small series of prototypes. In addition, the engineering team is developing the packaging building blocks which are being used for multiple customer projects and are also sold separately. Once a product development process for a customer has been finalized, the projects are handed over to the operations team for series production. This transition process still needs to be optimized and will require close cooperation with the Operations Manager.

Since we are a new and young company, we are on a steep continuous improvement curve and the Engineering Manager will also play a vital role in this process. You will report to the COO and your main tasks and responsibilities are: 

  • Manage the engineering team (currently 11 people and growing with organization)
  • Responsible for customer project procedure and optimization of this process
  • Manage the technical support from the engineering team to the sales team for new customer projects
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap of PHIX together with Management Team

Professional requirements

  • or PhD degree in a relevant technical direction
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in an engineering and production environment
  • Experience in managing projects and/or teams
  • Experience in applying 6 Sigma tools
  • Practical and pragmatic approach
  • Capable of working independently
  • Good personal organization and good reporting and documentation skills


  • Fluency in English
  • Dutch or willing to learn to speak Dutch
