PHIX is a packaging foundry for photonic IC’s (PICs) and we aim to become world leader in packaging and assembly of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). We supply customized PIC based components and modules to OEM customers and system integrators in scalable production volumes.

We believe that early involvement is critical to come to the best results and therefore PHIX is also offering engineering support in the product design phase to ensure the manufacturability of the PIC based modules. Job description

As design engineer photonics you are responsible as engineering lead in customer projects and R&D projects where PHIX is developing Photonic IC based products and the assembly processes for these products.  

  • Translate customer requirements in specific product and assembly process designs
  • Optimize product designs in cooperation with micro assembly process engineers to optimize manufacturability.
  • Represent PHIX and coordinate PHIX activities in Horizon 2020 projects
  • Manage the PHIX activities in R&D project consortia


Professional requirements:

  • degree in Photonics, Physics or Electrical engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in photonics
  • Experience in applying 6 Sigma in product development and process improvement.
  • Practical and pragmatic approach
  • Capable of working independently
  • Able to work from an incomplete set of specifications
  • Experience in project management of R&D project in consortia with multiple parties



  • Fluency in English
  • Dutch or willing to learn to speak Dutch
