U.S. Ultra Runners Attempting 350 Mile Journey in Brazil

Ultramarathon Event to Raise Funds for the Challenged Athletes Foundation

Three veteran endurance athletes, Chris Roman, Tony Portera and Jarom Thurston, will attempt to become the first known individuals to run the entire length of the Brazilian pilgrimage path known as the Caminho Da Fé (Path of Faith). Covering more than 350 miles in eight days, the Phix-fueled ultra runners will begin running the Caminho Da Fé in Cravinhos, Brazil, on January 18, 2011, and will finish in Aparecida, home of the patron saint of Brazil, on January 25. A portion of the route will be run in conjunction with the Brazil 135 Ultramarathon, the most difficult foot race in Brazil.

The Phix-sponsored group called Team 4WardMotion is running to raise funds and awareness for the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF)—the goal is to raise $40,000. Established in 1997, CAF’s mission is to provide opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics.

As a sponsor, Phix will be supporting the ultra runners’ eight-day journey.
